BASIC NUTRITION.

Why am I sick and tired?

The body of each human being consists of billions of cells and each cell is an entity of life in its own right.

Each cell has a limited lifespan and can replace itself after a pre-programmed time interval.

Each cell can be programmed to form a new human being.

Each cell has a nucleus (red cells excepted) that contains the DNA strings with the genes.

The specific combination of the genes program the cell to fill a specific function for a pre-determined timespan.

One cell can be programmed to form offspring with different functions thus developing into a new human being. (Cloning).

The cells with different functions form groups of cells with the same function (organs), eg. kidneys, heart, intestines, liver, brain and nerves, skin, muscles, etc.

Each cell is included in a cell membrane that consists among others of three essential fatty acids (Arachidonic acid, linoleic acid and linolenic acid).

These fatty acids are called essential because the body cannot manufacture them and they must be absorbed  from the diet.

Modern food processing techniques remove these fatty acids because they shorten the shelf life of the foodstuffs that should contain them. (Eg. bread, processed grain, etc).

The result is that many people are deficient of these fatty acids.

Because each cell in the body is an entity of life (factory), it needs food to stay alive.

It is also necessary to excrete waste products that are produced during the oxidation of the nutrition.

Each cell is engulfed by a liquid (plasma) and is also in close proximity to a small blood vessel (capillary).

The transport of nutrition in the body is very efficient and within seconds after absorbtion into the bloodstream it is available to all the cells of the body.

The nutrition of the cell moves out of the blood vessel, through the plasma and enters the cell through the cell membrane.

Waste products move through the cell membrane, through the plasma and enters the blood vessel.

The movement of nutrition and waste in and out of the cell is strictly controlled by the cell membrane.

Should a cell require a specific nutritional product (eg Vitamin B6) the cell membrane will start a chemical reaction (i.o.w. issue a requisition) that will allow vitamin B6 to enter the cell in the precise quantity required. The cell will never be engulfed by any substance that it does not require.

In the same way the cell membrane will excrete waste products that are not required any more.

Should a deficiency or an imbalance of the essential fatty acids exist in the body, it will affect the function of the cell membrane preventing certain foodstuffs to enter the cell (the chemical reaction cannot take place) as well as preventing the excretion of waste products from the cell. The cell becomes sick or can even die.

Your body containing the sick cells becomes tired and lethargic, even sick. (I am sick and tired).

When you are deficient of one or more essential fatty acids in your diet (most people are) you can take as many vitamins and supplements as you want, it will simply not be absorbed by the cell membranes of your cells. It is thus essential to first include the essential fatty acids in your diet.

The only product on the market containing all three essential fatty acids combined with all the natural vitamins and minerals required by the body is FORMULA IV or FORMULA IV PLUS.

GNLD calls it Tre-en-en (three in one). Tre-en-en is also available as a separate product.

What is cancer?  Why do people get it?

Cancer is the uncontrolled division of body cells in an organ. It forms a tumour that destroys the normal cells in the organ by compression. What causes cancer?

1. Free radicals.

In each cell of the body a series of chemical reactions take place during the burning (oxidation) of glucose.(Krebs cycle). The nett reaction of all these chemical reactions is the following:

Glucose + oxygen (O2) >>> Carbon dioxide (CO2) + water (H2O) + energy + free radicals.

Most of the free radicals occurring in the body are the result of this reaction.

The free radicals resulting from this reaction is a waste product that must be bound and removed from the cell.

These free radicals are either free oxygen ions or free peroxide ions, each containing a charge. They can enter the cell nucleus and do damage to the DNA strings and the genes by oxidation of the lipids they consist of.

This leads to a change in the properties of the cell and can even change its function. Most often the DNA is damaged in such a way that the cell loses its ability to control cell division. The cell now produces offspring that also lost its ability to control cell division. A tumour is formed consisting of millions of cells that lost its function and compresses the other cells in the organ. Cancer can start in any cell in the body.

Because free radicals are oxidants, they are bound by anti-oxidants. The body cannot manufacture anti-oxidants and relies on the diet to absorb them.

More active people burns (oxidizes) more glucose and produce more free radicals. (Our brain cells produce large quantities free radicals because these cells are always active).

It is thus very important to consume as many anti-oxidants as possible. (It is wise to take a wide variety of anti-oxidants instead of a product containing only one). There are three main groups of antioxidants that occur in nature: antioxidants derived from the yellow and orange vegetables (carotenoids) and are active in the fatty regions of the body (eg. cell membrane), antioxidants derived from the purple vegetables (flavonoids) and the antioxidants derived from the green vegetables like kale and brussel sprouts both active in the watery areas of the body (interstitial fluid, blood, etc.). GNLD's products are CAROTENOID COMPLEX, FLAVONOID COMPLEX AND CRUCIFEROUS PLUS. These products contain groups of antioxidants as they occur in nature.

2. Poisons.

To prevent insects damaging fruit and vegetables the farmers spray their crops with poisons of which most of them are cancer-producing in humans. The chemicals are absorbed by the plants and the fruit and vegetables contain them. The poisons cannot be removed by washing them.

The chemicals that are sprayed on the fields will dissolve in rainwater and contaminate our underground water sources and our rivers. Eventually they end up in our drinking water. Municipalities add chlorine (that are also cancer-producing) to kill off bacteria, but they do not remove the poisons. Our drinking water thus contains a mixture of poisons and the corpses of dead bacteria! It is wise to install an efficient water filter.

3. Fungi, bacteria and viruses.

Infections by the above organisms can damage the DNA of the cells in the same way as free radicals do. Chronic infections can lead to cancer of the infected cells. A supplement that provides good protection against infections is CAROTENOID COMPLEX, increasing your resistance against infection by 37% in just 20 days.

4. Sun.

Overexposure to the rays of the sun will eventually lead to damage to the DNA of the cells in the skin. This changes the function of the cells and hard growths (keratosis) that is the early stages of skin cancer, start to appear. Damage to the deeper layers of the skin leads to the deadly form of skin cancer called a melanoma. CAROTENOID COMPLEX will give good protection.

How can I protect myself against this attack?

From the above it is very clear that we live in a very hostile environment! Many of our people die without even seeing the enemy. Our greatest enemy is the continuous production of free radicals in our cells during the oxidation of glucose. It is very important to take a variety of anti-oxidants every day to bind these free radicals and excrete them. Fruit and vegetables contain a large variety of anti-oxidants when freshly harvested. After a few days of being transported and lying on the shelves the anti-oxidants are used up by free radicals in the air and in the vegetables itself. Another problem with fruit and vegetables is the cancer-producing poisons that it contains. Most anti-oxidant supplements on the market contain only one or a few anti-oxidants. It is not advisable to buy cheap synthetic anti-oxidants (eg Ascorbic acid) because of poor absorption and the risk to cause kidney and liver damage.  Because the free radicals are continuously produced in such large quantities it is important to take a large variety of anti-oxidants. CAROTENOID COMPLEX contains more than 600 different anti-oxidants from different fruits and vegetables. (Without the poisons). Other products of GNLD that contain large quantities anti-oxidants is CRUCIFEROUS PLUS and FLAVONOID COMPLEX.

What is a heart attack? What is a stroke? What causes it?

A heart attack is caused by the blockage of an artery supplying the heart muscle or part of it with blood. The result is that the muscle dies. If only a part of the heart muscle dies during an attack, you may survive.

A stroke is the blockage of an artery supplying part of the brain causing death of the brain cells affected. The symptoms can be seen in the part of the body that was controlled by the affected part of the brain. Usually paralysis or vertigo (dizziness). A major stroke (blockage of the carotid artery) causes immediate death.

What is the cause?

Free radicals also occur in the blood. Since a free radical has an electric charge, it oxidises the LDL cholesterol in the blood, causing it to become sticky and it will cling to the walls of the arteries. The body will try to correct the problem by depositing calcium in the area causing plaque-forming. The surface of the artery wall where the plaques occur becomes rough and thus promotes clot forming. Because the blood pressure will rise in this area due to narrowing of the artery, some of the clots may break loose and will be washed away in the bloodstream.  As the arteries become smaller the clot may block a smaller artery with the result that the area supplied by the artery will die. When it happens in the heart a heart attack follows. When it happens in the brain it causes a stroke.

Since a large percentage of the nation dies from cancer, heart attacks and strokes, it is a shocking proof that the diet of most people are deficient in anti-oxidants. All three deadly diseases have in most cases the same cause - free radicals.

Why do I suffer from back, neck and hip problems? What is osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis is the de-calcification of bone and cartilage with the result that it becomes porous and will break easily.

Why does it happen?

Calcium is probably the most important element in the body because its main function is its role in the transport of nerve impulses in the brain and the body. Every cell in the body has a calcium pump that in conjunction with sodium allows messages to flow into and out of the cell. Should calcium be deficient the messages will not be transported, causing collapse of the nervous system resulting in muscle paralysis. Paralysis of the heart muscle and breathing muscles causes immediate death.

Because calcium is such an important element in the body, the concentration of calcium in the blood is strictly regulated and kept between 9 and 10mg per 100 ml blood. This control is done by the parathyroid hormone and calcitonin. When the calcium concentration in the blood drops too low, parathyroid hormone is secreted that increases the blood concentration to normal levels obtaining the calcium either from the intestines or from the bones. Should the calcium concentration becomes too high, calcitonin secreted by the thyroid gland will lower the concentration to normal levels by excretion of excess calcium.

Should there be insufficient calcium in the blood or in the intestinal tract, the parathyroid hormone will simply decalcify bone or cartilage to normalize the blood calcium concentration. The decalcification of bone takes place evenly througout the body.

When the cartilage discs in the back becomes too weak, the weight of the body will compress them. The spine becomes shorter and the nerves coming from the spine are compressed, causing severe neck and back pain. Because the pelvis of ladies are weaker than that of men, it can break under body weight.

Why dont I have enough calcium in my body?

Calcium occurs abundantly in nature. However, calcium is poorly absorbed from the intestines. Only 10% of the total calcium ingested are absorbed in the right form (chelated or bound to an amino-acid). (Natural dolomite contains lead, strignine, arsenic and other poisonous substances and is only 2% absorbed. Milk is the best absorbed (40%) but contains too much fat.)

Research has shown that we should not ingest less than 1200mg calcium daily.

It is also found that the average calcium consumption of the nation is only 300 to 400 mg per day.

Absorption of calcium.

About 10% of the calcium in the intestines are bound (chelated) to an amino-acid (protein) before it is absorbed, provided all the factors promoting chelation is present. This chelation takes place in the duodenum (20 cm long section just after the stomach).

Calcium is absorbed in the small intestine in two forms: (a) chelated to an amino-acid and (b) free calcium

The chelated calcium can be stored in the bones while the free calcium is used to regulate the blood calcium concentration. When the free calcium in the blood rises too high, it is excreted by the kidneys as it cannot be stored. (Too high a concentration of calcium in the blood can cause kidney stones during excretion). Thus it is important that the absorbed calcium must be chelated to an amino-acid so that the lost calcium in the bones can be replenished.

Factors affecting chelation of calcium.

1.  Sufficient calcium in the diet.

2.  Sufficient estrogen or testosterone in the body. (ladies lose most of their estrogen after menopause).

3.  Fat in the diet (small amounts are required).

4.  Protein (amino-acids) in the diet.

5.  Acid environment in the duodenum.

6.  Vitamin D.

If any of the factors are missing, chelation will not take place. Eg. the continuous use of an antacid will alkalize  the duodenum. Older people have real problems absorbing chelated calcium because the skin has stopped producing vitamin D when exposed to sunlight, they have chronic heartburn and their hormone levels have dropped too low.

Is there a solution?

Take a calcium supplement that is already chelated!

GNLD's CALMAG WITH VITAMIN D is chelated to an amino-acid and 83% is absorbed in this form.

Three tablets a day supplies adequate calcium to stop osteoporosis.

How can I slow down ageing?

Ageing happens because of the attacks of your environment on your body. The body will age quicker because of excessive exposure to the sun, infections by bacteria, virusses, fungi and parasites, allergies causes by environment and food, unbalanced diet (too much omega-6 fat), deficiencies in diet (calcium is a common problem because of low absorbtion and leads to osteoporosis), poisons in your water and food, stagnation of the body due to lack of exercise, accidents, stress factors (worries), genetic factors, etc.

Our food does not contain the nutrition it should because of the processing it goes through in order to increase the shelf life of the product (eg. removal of the essential fatty acids from grains, addition of preservatives, etc). Because many farmers do not fertilize their crops using organic fertilizers, there is a loss of certain minerals from the soil with the result that the fruits and vegetables do not contain them.

There is a loss of antioxidants from fruits and vegetables during storage due to oxidation by the oxygen in the air.

Fruits on the market are picked green before the vitamins that it should contain are formed.

The body cannot manufacture vitamins and if it is not ingested through the diet, it goes without it. The result is that certain important processes in the body cannot take place leading to the formation of sick cells. Ageing is accelerated due to this.

It is important not to supplement the diet using synthetic vitamins because of poor absorption and may cause liver and kidney damage.

Obesity (overweight) is an important factor in ageing. The excess fat in the body causes damage to the walls of the arteries and veins due to oxidation by free radicals and leads to heart attacks and strokes. It also places a burden on the digestive system (pancreas and Islets of Langerhans producing enzymes and insulin) as well as the heart and vascular system that needs to work much harder to support all the extra fat cells in the body. It leads to indigestion and diabetes.

As the body ages it loses the ability to digest its food and to absorb the amino acids, vitamins and minerals it needs. The skin loses its ability to produce vitamin D when exposed to the sun. Vitamin D is an important factor in the metabolism of calcium. The hormonal system that plays an important roll in calcium absorption becomes weaker and loses its function (estrogen and testosterone).

It is possible to slow down ageing by changing your lifestyle.

The first step is to avoid excessive exposure to the sun to reduce the risk of skin cancer. Skin cancer can spread to other organs in the body.

Supplement the diet with natural antioxidants. (CAROTENOID COMPLEX, FLAVONOID COMPLEX, CRUCIFEROUS PLUS). It gives protection against free radicals that are constantly produced by body cells and it will increase your resistance to infection by 37%. Let your plate contain 80% fruit and vegetables and 20% white meat during a meal. Take a balanced protein-vitamin supplement that contains the 22 amino acids required by the body - preferably during breakfast (NEOLIFESHAKE or NUTRISHAKE).

Reduce your intake of omega-6 fats and increase the intake of omega-3 fats and oils. (OMEGA-3 SALMON OIL PLUS). It will reduce the damage done by free radicals on the walls of the arteries and will also reduce the oxidation of LDL cholesterol in the blood.

Take a calcium supplement that is well absorbed and does not cause kidney stones. (CHELATED CALMAG + VIT D has 83% absorption).

Take a supplement that will replace the three essential fatty acids that is processed out of our food (FORMULA IV or FORMULA IV PLUS).

Start an exercise program for at least 30 minutes per day (brisk walking, jog, dance) and do it every day.

By doing the above you will never have to be concerned over your body weight and will add 20 to 30 quality years to your life.

(Your ideal body weight is the last two figures of your height in centimetres).
